CS Soaker Hose Explained
CS Soaker Hose: How It Works, Benefits and Applications
Deliver water where plants need it: The CS Soaker Hose irrigates directly at soil level through its porous hose wall. Learn how it works, which product line suits your water source and what to consider when planning your irrigation system.
The Basics
How Does a Soaker Hose Work?
A CS Soaker Hose is a porous irrigation hose. With a suitable water supply, water passes through the hose wall and enters the surrounding soil. This allows planting rows, garden beds and suitable green spaces to be irrigated close to the soil without spraying water over the entire area from above.
How much moisture is distributed and how far it spreads depends on factors such as soil conditions, operating pressure, hose length and irrigation duration.
- Water delivery along the porous hose wall
- Installation on the soil surface, under mulch or, where suitable, underground
- Coordination of water source, filtration, pressure and irrigation run length
Benefits for Your Garden
What Are the Benefits of Soaker Hose Irrigation?
A Soaker Hose enables targeted water delivery close to the soil. The extent of the benefits in your garden depends on proper installation and use.
Water Where Plants Need It
The hose is installed along plants or within the soil area to be irrigated. Paths and unplanted areas do not need to be extensively watered with sprinklers.
Less Leaf Wetting
Because water is released close to the soil, leaves generally become less wet than with overhead sprinkler irrigation.
Suitable for Installation Under Mulch
A suitable covering can protect the hose and help reduce evaporation from the soil surface.
Four Product Lines
Which CS Soaker Hose Is Right for Your Project?
The most important factors are the water source, operating pressure, available water flow, installation method and length of each individual irrigation run.
For Gravity-Fed Water Supply
CS Soaker Hose Pressureless
For elevated rain barrels and water containers where there is a sufficient height difference between the water level and the hose. An electric pump may then be unnecessary.
Up to 25 m with straight installation; up to 50 m in a circular layout, supplied from one end and sealed at the other
Discover PressurelessFor Compact Garden Areas
CS Soaker Hose Startup
An option for raised beds, smaller garden beds and manageable irrigation runs with a suitable pressurized water supply.
Up to 50 m per run according to the technical data sheet, under suitable operating conditions
Discover StartupFor Versatile Garden Use
CS Soaker Hose Premium
For hedges, flower borders, garden beds and longer planting rows where pressure and available water flow are properly coordinated.
Up to 75 m per run according to the technical data sheet, under suitable operating conditions
Discover PremiumFor Larger Irrigation Projects
CS Soaker Hose Profi
For larger garden areas and professional irrigation systems with supply lines and irrigation runs designed to meet the hydraulic requirements.
Up to 100 m per run according to the technical data sheet, under suitable operating conditions
Discover ProfiThe specified lengths are product-specific upper limits, not a guarantee for every installation layout or water supply. Tight loops, multiple irrigation runs or elevation differences may require a different system design. Compare Technical Specifications.

Four Important Points Before Installation
A reliable irrigation system starts with a suitable water source and realistic planning of the entire water supply path.
Determine the Water Source
Distinguish between mains water, a pump and an elevated water container. Pressureless requires a sufficient water column.
Coordinate Filtration and Pressure
Include a suitable water filter. With a pressurized water supply, limit the operating pressure using an appropriate pressure reducer; a flow restrictor does not replace it.
Plan Irrigation Runs and Supply Lines
Consider the installation layout, hose length, elevation differences and the amount of water required simultaneously.
Check Water Delivery
Test the system after installation and check soil moisture at several points. Adjust the irrigation duration accordingly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Questions and Answers About CS Soaker Hoses
Does the CS Soaker Hose Release Exactly the Same Amount of Water Everywhere?
Water is released along the porous hose wall. However, the amount can vary depending on pressure, hose length, installation layout and soil conditions. Identical water delivery or soil moisture at every point cannot be guaranteed in general.
Can I Install a CS Soaker Hose Under Mulch or Soil?
Yes, with suitable planning. Depending on the type of plants, the CS data sheets specify an installation depth of 0 to 60 cm for Startup, Premium and Profi. The actual depth depends on the root zone, soil and application. For above-ground installation, covering the hose with soil or bark mulch is recommended.
Can I Connect the Soaker Hose Directly to a Water Tap?
With pressurized water sources, the operating pressure must be suitable for the product line. An appropriate pressure reducer is often necessary. A water filter should also be included in the system.
Does Pressureless Mean That No Water Pressure Is Required at All?
No. Gravity-fed irrigation works through the height difference between the water level and the hose. Without sufficient pressure head, water will not flow. CS Pressureless also has specific length limits and installation recommendations.
Which Product Line Is Suitable for My Irrigation Area?
Pressureless is intended for suitable gravity-fed systems, Startup for more compact areas, Premium for versatile garden use and Profi for larger projects. The deciding factors remain the water supply, pressure, irrigation run length and installation method.
