How to Install Your CS Soaker Hose Correctly

From planning to the initial test run: Learn how to connect your CS Soaker Hose, which maximum irrigation run lengths apply to Pressureless, Startup, Premium and Profi, and what to consider during installation.

Before You Begin

What to Check Before Installation

Effective Soaker Hose irrigation depends on more than just plants and hose length. The water source, available pressure and actual available water flow are also essential.

  • Assess the irrigation area, planting rows and soil conditions
  • Choose the appropriate product line and permitted length per irrigation run
  • Plan supply lines, elevation differences and multiple irrigation runs together
  • Include suitable filtration and, where necessary, a pressure reducer
  • Prepare suitable connectors, shut-off valves and end plugs

Installation Guide

Install Your Soaker Hose in Four Steps

These steps provide general guidance for typical irrigation systems. All components must be compatible with the water source and the CS product line.

  1. Prepare the Water Source and Supply Line

Check the water source, pipe layout and required water flow. For longer supply lines, choose an appropriately sized pipe diameter. Flush the supply line before connecting the Soaker Hose.

  2. Adjust Filtration and Pressure

Install a suitable water filter. For pressurized systems, adjust the required operating pressure using an appropriate pressure reducer. A flow control valve does not replace a pressure reducer.

  3. Lay and Connect the Soaker Hose

Lay the hose without kinks in the intended planting area. Use suitable connectors and seal the open end of each irrigation run supplied from one end with an appropriate end plug.

  4. Perform a Test Run

Turn on the water supply and inspect the entire system. Check connections for leaks, observe water delivery and only then cover the hose with soil or mulch.

The exact order of individual components depends on the manufacturer’s instructions and the actual system configuration. Pressure reducers and water filters serve different purposes.

Technical Guidance

What Hose Length Is Possible per Irrigation Run?

The stated maximum lengths require a suitable water supply and installation. They do not guarantee uniform water delivery under all conditions.

Installation Lengths for the Four CS Product Lines
Product LineStraight InstallationInstallation Around Plants / Circular Layout
PressurelessUp to 25 m per runUp to 50 m of actual installed hose length in a circular layout, supplied from one end
StartupUp to 50 m per runRecommended maximum of 15 m per run when installed around plants
PremiumUp to 75 m per runRecommended maximum of 15 m per run when installed around plants
ProfiUp to 100 m per runRecommended maximum of 15 m; short curved sections only with appropriate planning

Important: The 15 m recommendation for Startup, Premium and Profi applies to installation around plants. It is not a general restriction for every bend or installation layout. For longer runs with many tight curves, pressure losses and water distribution should be assessed separately. Further technical information is available in the product specifications.

Special Features of Pressureless

Pressureless: Understanding Straight and Circular Installation

The CS Soaker Hose Pressureless operates with low natural inlet pressure, for example from an elevated rain barrel. For gravity-fed operation, the water level must be sufficiently higher than the Soaker Hose.

Straight Installation

25 m

Maximum Length per Straight Run

Water InletEnd Plug

Water is supplied at the beginning of the hose. The other end remains sealed with a suitable end plug.

Circular Installation Around Plants

50 m

Maximum Total Installed Hose Length

Water InletEnd Plug

The hose is supplied with water at one end only. The open end is also sealed, forming no closed loop supplied from both ends.

Gravity Requires a Pressure Head: “Pressureless” means without conventional mains water pressure, not without a pressure difference. As a starting point, the CS brochure recommends approximately 20 to 50 cm of water column. What matters is the height difference between the current water level and the Soaker Hose, together with the pressure losses in the supply line and filter. Learn more about rain barrel irrigation.

Installation Examples

Four Common Garden Installation Methods

These examples provide planning guidance. Hose spacing, supply lines and the required number of irrigation runs depend on soil conditions, planting and system design.

Area Irrigation

Several parallel Soaker Hose runs can be supplied via a suitably sized, non-porous PE supply line. The spacing between runs depends on how moisture spreads through the soil.

Plan Area Irrigation

Row Irrigation

For hedges and vegetable beds, a Soaker Hose can be laid along the planting row. Where multiple rows are involved, separate connections using a suitable supply line are possible.

Shrubs and Trees

A circular layout within the active root zone may be suitable. The appropriate length depends on the product line. With Pressureless, ensure the hose is supplied from one end and sealed with an end plug.

Pressureless Information

Winding Layouts and Curves

Curves increase flow resistance. Particularly with numerous tight bends, shorter irrigation runs or a different system layout may be advisable; always avoid kinks.

Depending on the system, suitable tapping connectors can be used with PE pipes. Please check their specific compatibility with the CS product line. View Suitable Tapping Connectors in the CS Shop

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About CS Soaker Hose Installation

Does the CS Soaker Hose Have to Be Buried?

No. Depending on the plants, installation above or below ground is possible. For above-ground use, covering the hose with soil or bark mulch is recommended. Installation depth and hose layout should suit the root zone.

Why Do I Need a Water Filter?

A suitable water filter reduces dirt particles and the risk of the Soaker Hose pores becoming impaired. When using rainwater, pay attention to water quality and filter resistance. The filter should be checked regularly.

Why Can’t I Install Every 100 m Roll as a Single Run?

The roll length represents the amount of material purchased. The permitted length of an individual irrigation run depends on the product line and actual installation layout. Larger systems may require several separately connected runs.

Is Pressureless Connected at Both Ends for Circular Installation?

No. Even with a circular layout, water is supplied at one end only. The other end is sealed with an end plug; this does not create a closed water circulation loop.

How High Must the Water Tank Be Positioned for Pressureless?

As initial guidance, CS specifies approximately 20 to 50 cm of water column. The key factor is the height difference between the current water level and the hose. The supply line, filter, hose length and terrain may require a different configuration.

How Long Should the Soaker Hose Run?

There is no universally applicable duration. Monitor the moisture in the root zone and adjust irrigation time according to soil conditions, weather, plant water requirements and actual water delivery. During the initial period, water delivery may be higher than after prolonged use.
