CS Soaker Hose Pressureless

Soaker Hose Pressureless: Irrigation with a Rain Barrel

Supply plants with water through a porous irrigation hose, even without conventional mains water pressure: With a sufficiently elevated water supply, the CS Soaker Hose Pressureless can operate using gravity alone.

For Rain Barrels and Water Tanks

Water Delivery Close to the Soil Without Conventional Mains Pressure

The CS Soaker Hose Pressureless releases water through its porous hose wall along the installed length. It is suitable for vegetable beds, raised beds and greenhouses, for example, wherever there is no mains water supply or electricity available.

The key factor is the height difference between the water level and the hose. Only with sufficient pressure head and water flow can water from an elevated rain barrel pass through the hose without a pump.

  • Suitable for use with an elevated rain barrel or water tank
  • Water delivery around plants instead of widespread overhead sprinkling
  • Manufactured from recycled tire granulate and recycled polyethylene

How It Works

Rainwater Irrigation in Four Steps

The water level, supply line and installation method must be compatible. Follow these steps when planning your system.

  1. Check the Water Source

The water surface in the container must be sufficiently higher than the irrigation area. As the water level drops, the available pressure head decreases.

  2. Plan Filtration and Water Supply

Use a water filter suitable for the low inlet pressure and a supply line that minimizes pressure losses.

  3. Connect the Hose Correctly

Lay the hose along the planting area. Water is supplied at one end only, while the other end is sealed with an end plug.

  4. Check Water Delivery

After starting the system, check connections, water delivery and soil moisture. Adjust the irrigation duration according to plant requirements and weather conditions.

Correct Installation

25 Meters Straight or Up to 50 Meters in a Circular Layout

The maximum installation lengths apply per irrigation run. They refer to the actual hose length used, not the size of the irrigated area.

Installation Method 1

Straight Installation

Up to 25 m of Hose

Connect one end to the water supply, lay the hose along the planned irrigation run and insert an end plug at the other end.

For straight irrigation runs and planting rows.

Installation Method 2

Circular Installation

Up to 50 m of Hose

Lay the hose in a circular pattern, supply water at one end only and seal the other end with an end plug.

Do not connect the beginning and end of the hose or supply water from both ends.

Divide Longer Supplied Hose Lengths into Multiple Runs

A roll containing 75 or 100 m of hose, for example, does not automatically allow an irrigation run of the same length. Divide the total hose length according to the installation method and consider the combined water requirements of all simultaneously operating runs.

Technical Specifications

Wall Thicknessapprox. 2,5 mm
Intended Operating RangeLow inlet pressure up to 0,5 bar; sufficient pressure head is required for gravity-fed operation.
Maximum Operating Pressure1,5 bar.
Water Deliveryapprox. 8 to 10 liters per meter per hour when installed underground.
Installation Length per RunUp to 25 m straight, supplied from one end with an end plug at the other end.
ConnectionWith suitable fittings for 1/2 inch hose systems
WinterThe Soaker Hose remains in the ground after installation. Drain frost-sensitive accessories and store them in a frost-free location.

The supplied hose length and the permitted installation length of an individual run are not identical. Current lengths and set variants are available in the CS Shop.

Applications

Where the Soaker Hose Pressureless Can Be Used

In addition to the area itself, suitability depends particularly on the available water flow and the height difference relative to the water source.

Vegetable Beds and Planting Rows

Water delivery along the plants. The hose layout can be adapted to the spacing between plants.

Raised Beds

For compact areas, provided the water level is sufficiently higher than the elevated raised bed.

Greenhouses

Irrigation close to the soil surface along planting rows without a pump, provided the gravity-fed water supply is sufficient.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About Irrigation Without Mains Water Pressure

How High Should the Rain Barrel Be Positioned?

The rain barrel should always be positioned slightly higher than the area to be irrigated.

Do I Need a Pump for the CS Soaker Hose Pressureless?

No, provided the water supply is sufficiently elevated and the flow rate is adequate. If the water level is too low, such as in a lower-lying cistern, a suitable pump may be necessary.

Why Are Up to 50 Meters Possible with Circular Installation?

This maximum hose length is specified for the Pressureless variant when installed in a circular layout. Water is supplied at one end only, while the other end is sealed with an end plug. This does not mean a closed loop supplied with water from both ends.

Is a Water Filter Recommended?

Yes. A water filter suitable for low inlet pressure should be installed upstream of the Soaker Hose. It traps dirt particles and reduces the risk of clogging. The filter and water delivery must nevertheless be checked regularly.

How Long Should the Hose Run?

There is no operating time suitable for every system. Plant type, soil conditions, weather, water level and actual water delivery determine the requirements. Check the moisture in the root zone and adjust the irrigation duration accordingly.

Can the Hose Remain Underground During Winter?

Yes, the Soaker Hose can remain installed during winter. The water supply must be shut off; frost-sensitive components such as filters, distributors, valves and irrigation controllers should be drained and stored in a frost-free location.
